Wesley's Covenant Prayer
As a United Methodist, this prayer has been part of my life for a long time. It is not only a prayer of renewing our covenant relationship with God (as part of Wesley's Covenant Renewal Service dating back to 1755, two hundred years before I was born). It is also a humble prayer of submitting ourselves to God's will. Isn't that what Jesus did in the Garden of Gethsemane, submit to God's will? So,if you are ready to renew your devotion to God and rededicate your life to God, this prayer might be for you.
I am no longer my own by yours.
Put me to what you will, rank me with whom you will.
Put me to doing, put me to suffering.
Let me be employed for you or laid aside for you,
exalted for you or brought low for you.
Let me be full, let me be empty.
Let me have all things, let me have nothing.
I freely and wholeheartedly yield all things to your pleasure and disposal.
And now, glorious and blessed God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
you are mine and I am yours. So be it.
And the covenant now made on earth, let it be ratified in heaven. Amen.
