Prayer to the Holy Spirit
This prayer will be familiar to anyone who has participated in a Cursillo Movement style weekend retreat. I know it from Walk to Emmaus, Chrysalis and Way of Christ. Via de Cristo and Way of Christ use a longer form before talks and meditations. Some movements do not include the last paragraph, but I find it meaningful, even if I am the one standing to speak. I also like using this prayer as part of my own devotional routine, because I want God to speak to me through the scriptures or devotions I am reading.
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your
faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit, and they shall be created;
and you shall renew the face of the earth.
O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit,
instructs the hearts of the faithful, grant that by
same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever
rejoice in His presence..
I believe Lord, that You are here present.
Although my eyes do not see You, my faith senses
You. Take any stray thoughts from my mind. Make
me understand the truths which You wish to teach
me in this meditation. Let me make up my mind to
put them into practice. Your servant is listening,
speak Lord to my soul.
Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
This is the Way of Christ version in Illinois.
